RACE DEBRIEF
08.14.2021
A historic racing weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is underway with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES kicking off a motorsports tripleheader. Qualifying fifth, Colton Herta led the Andretti Autosport stable to reach third on the podium with teammate Alexander Rossi charging his way into fourth – gaining six positions on track. Late race contact from Bourdais devastated Ryan Hunter-Reay’s top-10 run, forcing the 28 machine to the rear of the field with no time to recover. After a difficult qualifying session Friday, James Hinchcliffe fought for the lead lap to come home 22nd.

Next up the team heads to the final oval of the season at World Wide Technology Raceway in one week’s time.

“I think Will [Power] was feeling the pressure as he had [James] Hinchcliffe in front of him that was the only time that I was able to catch him. He [Power] was on rails today. I couldn’t really do anything else any other time – he was just better. We worked to gain a tenth or two each lap. We lacked a little at the end and Romain [Grosjean] was probably a little better than us to be honest. We held him off as long as we could until he got back by us on the restart. The Gainbridge car felt good. It was a great turnaround from practice where we didn’t have any pace and finished 26th. I’m happy with a top-five qualifying effort and to come home with a podium.”
